FAQs

Will this zine be free, for profit, or for charity?
This zine will be free and distributed digitally as a PDF.
Will the zine be SFW, NSFW, or Both?
Both!
Is the zine themed?
No, but pending the successful completion of this zine we aim to produce more Nu Carnival fan zines.
When will contributor applications open?
Currently we plan to open contributor applications in May.
Will the number of zine contributors be limited?
Because this zine is free and digital, we plan to accept all those that apply as long as they 1) Are 18+ 2) Aren't a troll and 3) Are established writers/artists
Will we be expected to submit a portfolio when applying to the zine?
We will be asking for contributors to submit a writing sample (1K max) and/or illustration. Submissions can be either SFW or NSFW. We will also be asking for links to your AO3 and/or pages to check if you have a standing body of work, and are able to meet deadlines.
Are there guidelines for artists? If so, what?
Accepted artists will be allowed to submit an unpublished illustration or short comic (3 pages max). We want the Zine to be as uniform as possible, so we are going with a Vertical Format A4 size for all pieces, 300 dpi, RGB (since it will be on screen only)– CMYK will also be allowed.
No tracing or edits to Official artwork are allowed! Additionally, please refrain from directly copying any actual in-game scenes or symbols (e.g the elemental symbols) and do NOT include the Nu Carnival Logo in any of your pieces.
Any drawing/painting medium is allowed as long as a clean scan of the piece can be provided. Will there be merch?
If an artist or artists would be willing to create digital merch that would come with the zine, we more than welcome that! Additionally, we are open to having physical merch to accompany the zine, with profits going to a charity/cause that contributors feel strongly about. That being said, those that volunteer to design the physical merch might not be compensated.
Will there be someone to beta my writing?
Writing submissions will be split between writing mods to check for grammar, spelling, and originality of content. Writers are welcome to have an outside beta during the creation processes.
Is there a minimum and/or max word count?
The minimum word count is 1K words and the maximum word count is 7K words. Additionally, we expect pieces to be an unpublished work and not part of an existing series.
After I make a piece for the Zine, can I sell my piece, and only my piece, as a print?
You may sell your piece as a print after the Zine is finished, but please remember Derivative Works guidelines: “The sale of goods is limited to small-scale individual or group activities.” No mass printing
Can I post WIPs and/or my finished piece on my Social Media/or Website?
We want to keep the contents of the zine a secret, so we ask that during the creation process WIPs are only shared in the server amongst other contributors.Once the Zine is out, you are more than welcome to post your full piece on AO3 and/or social media! Be sure to tag the zine :)
Is there any content that is not allowed?
We’re all adults here, so anything goes! We will ask that pieces be tagged appropriately following the AO3 rating and tag system.
